Teaching English and Portuguese online over 6 years I've been teaching kids, teenagers and adults from different countries for more than 3 years. So, working with these people helped me to understand some common struggles among students. I assisted these peers mainly with grammar, conversation practice, pronunciation, listening, and accent reduction. Many of my students after some classes became more confident to speak in English. They could understand me and other people, beyond achieving their goals like being admitted at job interviews and different applications.

CELTA certification acquired in December 2020. My experience started in 2018 in Peru where I taught English in two language schools for a year. In the meantime I applied to be a community tutor here at Italki where I have been teaching not only English but also Portuguese and Spanish. My passion for teaching only grew with the time so I took a CELTA certificate in the end of 2020 and this experience provided me with a solid base and opened the way in many aspects of my career.

I also worked for the MimicMethod for a few years, where I was the Head of French Instruction and helped give specific pronunciation feedback to students. Later on, I also took lessons with a cinema accent coach and got acquainted with a more theatrical approach, which helped me be more versatile in my feedback. When I see one type of feedback doesn't work, I try another one. Each student reacts differently to different verbal cues, so I think it's important I can bring these different approaches to them, whenever needed :)

I find it amazing to track the student's progress, and see how they would feel more comfortable with the language as we invested in this journey. Communication is key. It's important that you feel engaged in the classes by speaking and practicing the language in contexts that would sound more natural to you.

Eu acredito que aprender uma língua é como nadar. Aprende-se fazendo. Não há sentido em aprender um monte de regras de gramática se você não praticá-las em uma conversação real. É por isso que nas minhas aulas eu ensino não apenas gramática e vocabulário, mas também crio situações nas quais meus alunos podem usar as estruturas novas. I believe that learning a language is like learning how to swim. You can only learn it if you do it. There's no use learning lots of grammar rules if you can't practice them in a real conversation. That's why in my lessons I teach not only grammar and vocabulary, but I also create situations in which my students will be able to use the structures we see.
