Another fun class with Yoshi sensei! I really like how we mix up my lessons so I'm always being challenged to learn new skills. Today, I practiced giving a presentation in Japanese, which was both fun and challenging. I especially appreciate how Yoshi sensei always provides thoughtful feedback and introduces new vocabulary to help me improve. I always leave each class feeling like I've learned many new things!

今日は尊敬語と謙譲語について学びました。市販(しはん)の日本語の文法書では、尊敬語の作り方の一つとして「れる・られる」が紹介されていますが、今回のレッスンで、この形はあまり使われないということに気づきました。 また、「ご確認しました」よりも「確認いたしました」のほうが自然な表現だということも学べて、本当に勉強になりました。先生、次のレッスンもよろしくお願いいたします！

Wie Japaner über ihre Sprache denken und sie wahrnehmen, ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil unseren Unterrichtungen. Von Yoshi zu hören, was beispielsweise unhöflich, zu maskulin/feminin oder überflüssig klingt, sind nicht nur interessante Aspekte der Sprachdynamik, sondern auch unerlässlich für die Konversation. Als Lehrer ist Herr Yoshi fähig, kundig, und amuzierend, den ich wohlhaftig emphfelen kann.

Speaking two languages while growing up was something I really took for granted, because as a child it was effortless. Nowadays, I am much older and took up Japanese on a whim while recovering from a surgery. Learning a third language is the most rewarding and enjoyable hard work I have had in a long time. I love it, and Yoshi is no small part of my Japanese adventure. He's always upbeat, easy to speak to (luckily for me), and makes things very clear. Honestly, I leave his lessons with more enthusiasm for learning this incredible language. Take it from me, I am retired public high school principal and college professor, this is what the best teachers do for their students! ヨシさんありがとうございます！

Great lesson with Yoshi sensei! Over the past few months, we have worked our way through the Genki textbook, which has been very helpful. He always gives me helpful suggestions for how I can continue improving my Japanese, both in and outside of class. He is very enthusiastic about helping me challenge myself, review what I’ve learned, and find new ways to keep learning!

Another fantastic lesson with Yoshi-sensei! He brings such a warm, encouraging energy that makes practicing conversation and working through tricky grammar a breeze.
