Roselle

Ms. Roselle is an incredibly patient and kind instructor! Her teaching approach has helped me advance in Cebuano through guided examples, engaging conversations, and gradual introduction of helpful phrases. I really appreciate how she personalizes each lesson to fit my learning needs, making the process both effective and enjoyable. Her flexible, structured method ensures that I not only learn vocabulary but also feel confident using it in real conversations. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn Cebuano in a supportive and encouraging environment!

I've had the privilege of working with Roselle for several lessons now, and I can only say great things about my experience with her. Cebuano is a "heart language" for those of us who speak it and/or were raised in it, but it can sometimes be considered a second-class language (and culture!) in the Philippines compared to Tagalog. Furthermore, it is not as often taught formally in school, and a lot of Cebuano literature, music, and media can go overlooked. My experience of Roselle is as a teacher who is also passionate about Cebuano as such a "heart language", who also delights in the regional idiosyncrasies of the various Cebuano dialects, and who treats it both with the seriousness it deserves, and the levity it so often conveys and is known for! In my experience on iTalki and elsewhere, this is hard to find, and I count myself blessed to be learning from her. Magpadayon jud ko ug kat-on sa iyaha!

Another lovely lesson! This time, we studied pronouns and interrogatives. I definitely can sense my forward movement in the language, it's great.

I am very grateful that Roselle is sharing her time and energy with the italki community. Her teaching style and presence is perfect for my learning journey. We’ve went through a variety of materials and topics, and I love that I can slowly but surely recognize more words from podcasts and texts. Eventually I will be able to successfully eavesdrop on my mom‘s conversations with my aunts. :)

Another stellar lesson with Roselle! We continue to study trick Bisaya particles through making examples, and are now learning to express the past tense with the prefix gi-.

Another fantastic lesson with Roselle! Today we went over some children's stories to see both vocabulary and grammar in action. Roselle also provided me with resources where I can find more stories, music, and videos to start working on immersion. I look forward to future lessons!
