Hello! My name is Jay R., and I live in the United States. I have taught English informally since 2015 to students from all different walks of life - kids, teenagers, adults. I attended Penn State University's Honors College on a full-ride scholarship, earning a double B.A. in Asian Studies and Korean and graduating top 2% of my class. I work for a large study abroad nonprofit, supporting 4000 international students come to the U.S. to study. I am well versed working with non-native English speakers across the world because of my studies and intercultural exchange experiences!
My hobbies are working out, gaming, watching TV shows, and volunteering.

I have taught English informally since 2015, so 8 years counting, to students from diverse backgrounds and age groups, in-person and virtually, and domestically and internationally. I mostly worked with Korean and Spanish students, but I have also tutored North Korean defectors through Aurora NK for 7 months. I'm currently working on a TEFL certification, and I will be certified by the end of this year!
As your teacher, I'm here to teach you the English you need, tailor classes to whatever areas you want to focus on (i.e. grammar, vocabulary, conversation) and support you every step of the way in your English learning. Having studied Korean and Spanish myself, I understand how nerve-wracking learning a new language can be - so my classroom will always be a safe space for you to learn, express yourself, make mistakes, and improve your English. I'm here to teach you what you need to learn, encourage you to keep studying, and hold you accountable if you think you can't get there.
