I’m Catarina, but you can call me Cat!
I live in Salvador, a city that captures the essence of Brazil — both in its rich history as in its beauty. I’ve always loved languages and all kinds of art: cinema, literature, music, and more. That passion inspired me to start learning English on my own as a child.
And, like a true nerd, I also love studying! At the moment, I’m a student in the pharmaceutical field, and my greatest passion is sharing as much knowledge as I can. I’m known for being calm, open-minded, and fun, but also very dedicated to creating helpful, engaging learning materials.

As a teacher, I am dedicated, organized, and creative. I believe in the proven effectiveness of active learning methods and spaced repetition, and I strive to create a fun and engaging environment that incorporates games, art, and culture. My classes are dynamic and interactive, with a strong focus on speaking, though I can also include writing and reading if those areas need practice. I believe that with every student I teach, I refine my approach, tailoring lessons to meet your specific needs. I am always looking for content that aligns with your interests (culture, politics, philosophy, nature...) and enriches your daily life, ensuring a personalized and enjoyable learning experience. I currently offer two main types of classes: Conversational Portuguese and Portuguese for Beginners.
In the Conversational Portuguese class, I tailor the content to your level and interests, whether it's discussing Brazil, getting deep into slangs or idiomatic expressions, or exploring movies, music, and cultural aspects. I also send a summary with new words and exercises after the lesson, along with additional resources like movies and books to enhance your learning.
For Beginners (A1/A2), I use materials such as books and exercises to teach grammar and vocabulary, focusing on active practice and in tracking your progress.

Catarina is a great teacher, very friendly and relaxed, but always able to provide useful corrections and explanations when needed. She finds fun and interesting ways to learn Portuguese and has given me great advice on how to practice outside of the classes too. Cat is such an amazing and dedicated teacher! Whether you want to focus on speaking or grammar, she is always willing to accommodate you according to your needs and level. When speaking, you will never run out of things to discuss, because Cat is super friendly, intelligent and knowledgeable, but at the same time very serious and organised, especially when it comes to teaching language theory. And as the cherry on top, you always get extra exercises, vocabulary lists and fun recommendations (e.g., videos) to follow up on your lesson and revise it later. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, Cat definitely has something for every learner of Portuguese. I am always looking forward to our classes and inevitably come out of them with a big smile on my face!
