Hello, I'm Sophie – your German teacher for real-life communication!
I'm a northern German with a degree in Cultural and Arabic Studies, and I’ve spent the past 10 years helping migrants in Hamburg learn German in a lively, practical way. My teaching goes far beyond grammar: it’s about using language with confidence in everyday life. For me, true integration begins with communication that connects people.
Today I teach from my tiny house in Portugal, surrounded by nature. Here I live what I teach: cultural awareness, sustainability, and the joy of learning without pressure.

I began teaching German professionally in 2017. In a refugee education project, I worked with mixed-level groups — from literacy classes all the way to B2. My focus was always on communication and pronunciation, helping learners use the language confidently from the very beginning.
To bring German to life, I organized trips and excursions connected to our lesson topics, giving students the chance to apply what they learned in real situations.

I love grammar and enjoy bringing structure and clarity to the learning process. At the same time, I know that a language truly becomes alive through practice. That’s why my lessons combine both: clear grammatical foundations alongside practical exercises, speaking activities, games, and plenty of repetition — all in a balanced, enjoyable way.
I believe adult learners thrive through motivation and autonomy, so I don’t give traditional homework. Instead, you decide how you want to learn outside the lessons. My role is to support you with structure, guidance, and individual feedback — you set the direction, and I accompany you as effectively as possible.Mes ressources d'enseignement

Sophie is especially professional in adapting to her students' level and needs, I belive due to her broad experience in teaching German to foreigners. She's quite patient, elaborate, caring and understanding. Sophie speaks other languages so she's on the same wavelength with her students, and can also easily come up with examples from the languages, too. She's very punctual and organized as well. Quite a pleasure to have classes with Sophie ❤️

I have been learning German with Sophie for more than 10 lessons and every time I look forward to my next class. She is very friendly and competent: during each class we alternate conversation and grammar, and she constantly prepares new questions and exercises to consolidate my vocabulary.
My German has visibly improved and I am very happy to have her as my teacher.

I'm practicing conversation, and it's going great. She is very patient, calm, and easy to understand. She also corrects my mistakes instead of letting me speak with many errors, and I think this is very important.
