Dear Students,
My name is Rafael Leite, and I have been working as a Portuguese second language instructor for ten years (+3 years online experience). I consider myself easy to work with, organized, and always ready to support my students.
Fortunately, I have vast pedagogical experience with all levels of proficiency in Portuguese, as well as experience preparing students for the Portuguese proficiency exam, Celpe-Bras.
All this experience has helped me grow as a teacher and as a person. I really hope to contribute to your language improvement in the best way possible so that you can continue this amazing journey which is learning my native language.Moi en tant que professeur
During these years I have improved my skills by teaching many international students including children, teenagers, and adults from different age groups. I use various techniques in my classes based on the student, as students have different backgrounds and needs. I have experience teaching international banking professionals, American, European and Japanese multinational executives as well as several professionals from the US and Australians on diplomatic mission in Brazil.Mes leçons et ma méthode d'enseignement
My methodology is based on the Communicative and Usage Based Approaches which aims to use communication as the major point to address grammar, lexicon and the interpersonal skills necessary to help students of Portuguese as a Second Language acquire fluency.
Usually, the class is split into 3 parts: 1. Review of what was discussed in the previous lesson(s) followed by feedback on assignments, conversation on everyday topics such as, family, friends, routine and news. 2. Small lecture, which approaches grammar and a vocabulary topic and oral practice. 3. Debates and discussions on current topics.

When I first decided to take Portuguese lessons on italki as a beginner, I was nervous about focusing solely on the speaking aspect, afraid of saying things incorrectly and making mistakes. This journey has been a complete surprise for me - Rafa is a wonderful teacher, very patient, and friendly. Whereas I thought I might struggle to get through an hour, the class flies by each time as conversation is fun and engaging, and suddenly communication becomes the main focus. I love how the topics of focus are varied - between history, culture, music, and politics mixed in with learning the basics of conjugation, grammar, vocabulary and - my favorite - colloquialisms. :) Thank you for being awesome, Rafa.. até a próxima!

I have had three 90 minutes lessons and have learned so much.
I speak Spanish so I started with an advantage. However, the class is entirely in Portuguese. Rafael is focused and so professional. This is a great experience.
