Julieta

I look forward to every lesson with Julieta – she’s a fantastic teacher: patient, attentive, flexible and empathetic. I’m learning Portuguese with my partner. We focus on conversation and everyday language. From the very start, Julieta has responded to our wishes and keeps the classes both open minded and structured at the same time. This is really invaluable and I highy appreciate that, because we have very specific needs: without a lot of grammar drills or text work, we want to explore spoken Portuguese and learn the language the way you do in real life – like a child picks up a language. It must require a lot of patience while listening, and Julieta handles it brilliantly. Muito obrigada, Julieta 😊 The atmosphere is very pleasant; I never feel under pressure when I make mistakes. Already looking forward to our next lesson! :)

Exceptional. Julieta cares about her craft. While she is gregarious and affable, it is clear that her concerns are broader and deeper than some nebulous "communication." Yes, to connect, but there are many ways of doing so and some are better than others. There is connection, for sure, but also clarity, precision, guidance, and all with a gentle but firm touch. That she types corrections, modifications, emphases and the like onto the screen is really helpful, especially because these are then available to me for review. Julieta also offers exercises, for example, asking me to describe a familiar route -- for me that would be to my yoga studio. Good test of vocabulary and much more without leaving me overwhelmed. Having been a college/university professor for 20 years, and thus with some knowledge of teaching aptitude, pedagogy, and gifts, I can say with confidence that Julieta is a teacher by design and by native gifts.

Hi - we had technical problems all the time and connection was disconnected many times. We wasted a lot of time on this. We gave us and had to move to google meet - which was ok. The teacher is great, but the tech problem was on your side. Please refund me on this lesson.

In the past 4 months, I’ve had 101 lessons with Julieta and I believe I can now say without a doubt that she is one of the very best teachers on italki. Julieta is not only knowledgeable about all quirks of her mother tongue, she knows how to share her enthusiasm about language learning. Only an excellent teacher can make the most complex things seem simple, and only a great teacher still can make it both interesting and enjoyable. I’ve really enjoyed working with Julieta. She is very professional, gives clear guidance, and is incredibly patient and thorough—especially with Portuguese pronunciation, which is challenging for me as a beginner. She takes the time to make sure I get it right, and that has helped build my confidence. I plan to continue lessons with her and highly recommend her to anyone serious about learning Portuguese.
