Hello! My name is Jesse. I'm an experienced ESOL teacher, translator, published writer, avid reader and native English speaker. I am from Central Florida, and currently live in Philadelphia for graduate studies. My hobbies include learning languages, writing, traveling, reading, and spending time with my family.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, completed one year in the Applied Linguistics program at UMass Boston (MA), and I am an MFA candidate in Writing, studying Translation & Poetry at Vermont College of Fine Arts. I earned a TEFL teaching certificate as well, and have published in various North American and international literary journals.
Moi en tant que professeur
Conversation class:
Students learn best when they are comfortable. I make learning both fun and easy by creating lessons that interest you. I adapt to your language and comfort level and give corrections with kindness.
Writing class:
Rather than offering correction only, I provide students with resources to improve their future writing. Each student is provided with information about their strengths and weaknesses in English, as well as what they should study in the future to improve their language and writing skills. Resources are sent after I have viewed your writing to give direction in your studies. I believe that every writer can improve with practice and encouragement!
Mes leçons et ma méthode d'enseignement
Informal Tutoring: I do not plan lessons. The student chooses topics and is free to have a conversation or practice anything they are currently learning. I keep a spreadsheet with any corrections and provide notes for each student.
Advanced Conversation: I plan a lesson based on the student's needs using Google Slides. Lessons include vocabulary lists or specific grammar to practice based on the needs of the student. I will provide notes after the lesson with any corrections or materials for future classes.
Writing:
Detailed editing, corrections and feedback for your writing (see class description for length!)
**Please note that this is NOT a Skype class! See class for information.**
