This was my 15th or 16th lesson and the first one since coming back from a week long trip to Finland — when I first started lessons with Satu I had studied for just over a year but had very little confidence speaking. In just a few months, I've really grown that confidence through lessons with Satu, and I don't think it would have been possible without her help! The lessons are always interesting and varied, from basic conversations to very specific discussions about video game characters and mechanics!

I just can't get tired of conversational classes focused on some specific topics. Satu sends some tips and materials in advance, but you get so much practical every-day vocabulary after each lesson in addition to that! It's a very effective way to discover which words and expressions you lack in real communication.

I cannot recommend the nörteille lessons enough! Satu is a great teacher, who always checks in with her students current needs and modifies her lessons accordingly. She takes notes and shares lots of helpful resources. Right now, we are in the middle of a D&D campaign and although I didn't have any previous experience in playing, she is making it work. Satu is very creative, well prepared and puts a lot of love into her work. She makes studying a lot of fun and I always look forward to our next lesson!

I have taken approximately 20 Finnish lessons from Satu. My experience has been 10/10 great. The biggest thing I could say if you’re considering starting lessons with her, is to know the value you’re going to get. Satu is very prepared and has a ton of information and premade material immediately at her fingertips that she can put on the screen very quickly and efficiently. She is very good at screen sharing and she will make a Google doc with everything you learned that you can go back to later. I took an in-person Finnish course at a university and what I learned over 4-5 hours a day, Satu could clear everything and explain all of it in one hour session. So if your having any doubt to get a professional language teacher on Italki and if the extra cost is worth it, I think the answer is absolutely yes. I feel optimistic and excited about learning Finnish with Satu.

I've now had just over 50 lessons with Satu, and they have been so much help! My 50th lesson came shortly after my 5th trip to Finland, and compared with 6 months ago, my confidence was much higher and I was able to handle most things in Finnish, and even participate in a thesis defence dinner and discussion! Satu is a really skilled teacher and they are able to switch between more 'classroom-style' grammar lessons and exercises to advanced conversation-based lessons easily. Something I really value about their lessons is the fact that while I am speaking, they write grammar corrections or more natural phrasing of what I am saying into the chat, and then provide the chat log in a document so that I can review this when studying on my own. If you're a Finnish learner, you probably know already how incredibly helpful this is for reinforcing the grammar! And if you're a teacher, you probably know how much focus that takes!
