Great lesson! For our first lesson, we treated this like a "four course meal". The "first course" was an easy grammar exercise (working on listening/speaking) expressing our interests in simple terms to get us warmed up. Then she asked me a series of questions to give me a chance to work on answering some fairly simple questions. After that, she gave me a passage to read and then react to, to work on my reading and speaking skills. The "last course" was the most difficult, where we discussed more advanced level questions. For each course, we focused on topics surrounding a single theme (in this case, that theme was travel). I really enjoyed this approach, since it gave me a chance to work on a variety of different skills, and increasing the difficulty with each level gave me a chance to get more comfortable as I work towards improving my Chinese. Looking forward to our next class together!

Yating is a fantastic teacher, always well prepared with interesting and helpful materials. As an advanced learner I have often struggled to find a teacher used to teaching at the appropriate level, but she is fantastic!
