My kids improve their Cantonese a lot with Zack.

Really enjoyable lessons! Zack is always well prepared and his lessons are relaxed yet well structured, with a sound grounding in grammar and pronunciation. I really like the pace of progress and review, in our lessons.

It’s rare to find a native speaker so attuned to (and interested in) the intricacies of their own language. I feel like I can come to Zack with any question (whether it’s about proper usage of a new word or grammatical constructions that my brain has a hard time processing) and his responses are always clear, thoughtful, engaging, enlightening, and motivating. If needed, he will take the time outside of class to properly address any questions I have. He pushes himself to fully understand any linguistic phenomena I express interest in so that he can teach them to me as clearly as possible. He is one of the most talented, dedicated teachers I have ever had both in and outside of language learning—and he is certainly one of the kindest. I also really appreciate his infectious sense of humor. I really can’t recommend Zack highly enough. I'm looking forward to our next lesson (as always)!

I have had almost 100 lessons with Zack, and I've learned so much. I grew up speaking Cantonese, but was lacking vocabulary and fluency to express more complex thoughts. I believe that I have come a long way since starting on italki and especially after taking lessons with Zack. I always do conversation practice, and although there is no set lesson plan, Zack always does an amazing job at keeping the conversation going, introducing new words/idioms, and encouraging me to try new ways to say things. Most importantly for an unstructured conversation practice, Zack feels like an old friend whenever we meet - so we always have a lot of laughs, we talk about both light and heavy conversation topics, and he makes it feel fully safe to try new things and make mistakes when speaking Cantonese. I do receive feedback and corrections always in a gentle, but constructive way. I highly recommend working with Zack if you are serious about learning or improving your Cantonese!

I usually look at 50 to 200 profiles before choosing a teacher. And Zack didn't disappoint! The lesson was amazing and with good energy while still being efficient. If you notice his profile, he's timestamped where to look for each language that may interest you - a clue that he would be (and is) empathic, thinks deeply about others' needs and very organised, beyond what you can expect from most people.
