Shu-sensei is an awesome teacher. I would recommend him to anybody at any language-learning level, because he's patient. He can always tell when I'm about to say something, and he'll stop and wait for me to talk.
My typical lesson with Shu-sensei is to have a casual conversation and then review writing homework. For homework, I just write about whatever topic I want. During the lesson, I read the homework out loud, and he will give grammar advice. Typically the homework leads to further discussions. I like this format because I get to talk about my interests.
I decided not to study grammar with Shu-sensei, because I personally want to focus on speaking. However, he does offer grammar-focused lessons, if that's what you want.
The lessons are over before I know it, because they're very fun. Educational, but it doesn't feel like I'm in a classroom setting. If you're afraid of speaking in Japanese, I highly recommend giving it a try with Shu-sensei.

ありがとうございます,しゅう先生!あなたのレッスンはとてもたのしいですね。
Shu's lessons are fantastic, and I am always learning and pushing my limits in a great way. Today we did 2 new grammars but still Shu was incredibly patient with me as we worked through them. I really enjoy these classes and will continue to come back. Thanks Shu!

しゅうさん is such an amazing teacher and person! I love how the classes are structured. In every lesson you would start with a conversation, that is always so much fun. Since the talk can be about anything, you don’t just learn japanese but other topics too. if you are unsure about something, he gives very clear explanations and really makes sure that you understood. Then you would check the homework that is usually a diary and a written conversation. What I like about this kind of homework is that firstly he lets you write about topics that either interest you or regard daily life, building a vocabulary that you would actually need if you were to speak japanese. Secondly, since you write the diary and conversation on a file he gives you, everything is collected on the same page and you can look back at the previous homework and notice all the improvements that you made. The last part of the lesson is dedicated to the grammar, which he is very good at explaining. しゅうさん、ありがとうございます!

I've had lessons with Shu Sensei for 1.5 years now, and have improved significantly in terms of my overall Japanese speaking, writing, and reading capabilities. Shu Sensei has always been incredibly patient, thorough in his explanations, and always knows how to make you feel comfortable with expressing yourself. Looking back at the homework I wrote at the start of my lessons to what I write now, I can really see just how much I've improved under Shu Sensei's guidance. When I travel to Japan etc. I'm also shocked by just how much better I've gotten at speaking/listening, mostly due to my lessons with Shu Sensei. I thus highly recommend him to everyone!
