As always, another effective session. I am impressed by Gao-Gao's level of preparation, and how tailored the content of the lectures is to my own interests. It keeps me engaged! My Chinese friends have already been telling me that I made significant progress in Chinese, and that I must have a good Chinese teacher! Go go go!

I had another wonderful session with Gao-Gao. I learned a lot across many dimensions: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture. We worked through a foundational classical text which has helped me understand both the evolution of the Chinese language and the cultural values it transmits. Her stellar background (Ph.D from EHESS in one of the top linguistics labs worldwide) shows in every lesson. She doesn't just teach vocabulary and grammar; she places each sentence in its historical context, and explains the linguistic evolution behind the language we use today (e.g., 之 -> 的). The homework she sets - write your own response, agree or disagree with the text's claims - turns passive reading into real critical thinking. Highly recommended - especially if you want to go beyond conversational Chinese into literature, and culture. It reminds me of the classes I had when I was in graduate school at UC Berkeley many years ago!

I've had six lessons with Gao-Gao so far, and I've already decided to keep studying with her. I have already made noticeable progress! When I mentioned that I wanted a more structured study plan, Gao-Gao put a lot of thought into personalizing my plan around my current level, my goals, and down to a weekly schedule: distinct lesson types across the week (homework, listening/speaking, reading/writing), with a homework cadence calibrated to fit my own personal schedule. It is the sort of plan one would expect from a serious academic program! Gao-Gao is well-prepared for each lesson, which makes every session feel productive. Thank you! I warmly recommend Gao-Gao for anyone serious about long-term progress!

I studied advanced Chinese 12 years ago, and much of it is now rusty as I haven't had much opportunity to speak it. Over the years, I have been less and less confident at speaking Chinese. Yet, Gao-Gao tailored her teaching to my own specific background and goals, which quickly made me feel at ease. We had our first formal lecture, and I am confident that having Gao-Gao as my teacher will help me reach my language proficiency goals (C1-level in Chinese), fast. I also appreciate how organized Gao-Gao is. Gao-Gao has a very unique background, which makes her very adaptable and empathetic. She has a deep understanding of the Chinese language (at the academic research level!) and lived within many cultures! -------- Gao-gao est une excellente prof. If you wish to learn Chinese literature, I highly recommend Gao Gao laoshi! My lessons with her on Tang and Song poetry over the course of several months have been most rewarding. Not only is she very knowledgeable and good at explaining complex ideas, she plans the learning journey over the months very well and skillfully accommodates my learning needs in each session.
