At first I was a little bit hesitant about having a teacher. I was nervous and did not know what to expect, especially being a monolingual adult. Thankfully she is so warm and understanding. I appreciate that she takes into account your goals and concerns. I was looking for more focus on speech and grammar and she tailored our lessons accordingly. At the beginning she encouraged me to at least recognize some characters when reading, however she is never strict with it. She will often provide helpful context and insight for words and phrases. I’ve been taking classes with her for about 5 months now and I’ve enjoyed them all. She’s really patient and will often go over homework or questions you may have! Overall wonderful teacher.

This was our best lesson yet! I really appreciated how you taught me vocab and sentence structure for many things I wanted to be able to talk about. It was so fun trying to talk with you in Mandarin after my first month of studying.

When I first moved back to the United States from Taiwan my Chinese language skills suffered and it was discouraging. Starting classes with Whitney has helped me regain my Chinese language skills and restored my confidence. She is very encouraging, organized, and professional and has helped me prepare for work trips to Chinese speaking countries, important work meetings, and day to day Chinese conversation. I would recommend Chinese language learners of all levels to sign up for classes with Whitney!

I really appreciate your patience and encouragement as I start trying to form sentences about things I want to say. Thank you for teaching me how to say sentences I want to say, even when the grammar hasn't appeared in the chapters we've covered. It feels like cross training! Being able to tell you real things about my life motivates me to work hard.
