I am a professional bilingual Japanese–English language teacher with an international background. Born and raised in Japan, I offer native fluency and deep cultural insight. My education in Australia(B.A. in Linguistics&B.Ed) provides me with a Western perspective on language acquisition. This unique combination allows me to bridge the gap for English speakers learning Japanese. I explain complex grammar points clearly in English while providing authentic, culturally relevant learning materials.

I am a professional Japanese teacher and have been teaching with italki since 2013. I can assist absolute beginner to highly advanced level students (including N5-N1 preparation), who are willing to manage aspects of their own learning. Thanks to many of my students, I have been become one of the most experienced Japanese teachers at italki.
I use PPT and Word documents to explain grammar points, etc. in English. My native language is Japanese, but I am trained and qualified to teach in Australia and I feel more comfortable explaining Japanese in English. Informal Tutoring (WITHOUT Textbooks, Set Topics, or Lesson Plans): This is a relaxed space to practise speaking Japanese. We can talk about any topic that interests us, and I will correct any errors during our conversation. Due to the advanced nature of this course, it is only suitable for INTERMEDIATE+ learners who are already comfortable speaking Japanese
Professional lessons (WITH Lesson Plans and Textbooks/Resources): These are structured lessons using textbooks, resources from the Japanese education system, and newspaper articles.

Kara sensei is a great Japanese teacher! In classes, we talk in Japanese for a while before diving into the textbook, which gives a lot of practical practice. Kara is very positive and joyful and makes learning Japanese very fun and enjoyable! I'd definitely recommend taking classes with her.

What a wonderful class. We talked the entire time. Kara sensei constantly wrote notes on the chat for me. At the end she said that we had reviewed lessons 1-6 in the book. What a wonderful way to teach. Reviewing material without the student even knowing it. Her class is so much fun. Thank you, Kara sensei.

Had my first class today with Kara先生 as a beginner. To preface I self studied using resources like textbooks and other immersion materials, but have zero experiences in speaking or output as I have never taken classes.
I started the class very nervous, but Kara先生 was very professional and friendly. I struggled quite a fair bit, and made a few mistakes now and then, but Kara先生 was able to correct me and explain vocab/grammar points that I didn't understand without making me feel bad.
Overall, the class was very enjoyable and my nerves went away very quickly as it was like talking to a friend. To those who want to practice their speaking but are nervous to do so, I highly recommend Kara先生 to start your journey. :)
