Dr Amirthakadeswarar

I am a professor of public health in the United States and have been taking Tamil lessons with Dr. Amirthakadeswarar for a month now. I am incredibly impressed by the breath of his knowledge of Tamil and by his love for the language and his dedication to impart that love to his students. To learn a language well, it is not enough merely to learn the vocabulary and the grammar. It is also incumbent upon the student to deeply understand the roots of the language and to appreciate its inherent beauty, through exposure to its poetry and literature. My desire to learn Tamil is to improve my ability to be able to communicate with communities about the science of public health, and while we learn that, Dr. A also shares his bountiful expertise about the history and culture underlying the language. He is a kind and patient teacher and is a pleasure to work with him. I can say with confidence that it is extremely rare to find another teacher like him and I strongly recommend him.

Prof Amirthakadeswarar is a scholar of Tamil language and literature. This means he is able to help students to not only speak and read Tamil but also understand the grammar. He can explain the language to all levels. For these reasons, he is a rare teacher on this platform. I encourage all who are interested in learning tamil to take a lesson from him.

My professor is very devoted and patient. Even in difficult times for him and his family, he is always present and assures that his students are taken care of. Very professional and with a lot of patience

Excellent teacher, very patient, approaches material from multiple angles. Provides many examples in literature, music, film, history, and anecdotes to improve comprehension of material. In addition to building on fundamentals, he dedicates a portion of our sessions directly towards my goals when we converse about various subjects I have an interest in. Every time we run into a word I do not know - which is most words - we stop to learn the word in Tamizh, including whether it is Sanskrit-derived or pure Tamizh. This has significantly ramped up my vocabulary. The conversational practice has challenged me to speak Tamizh more cogently. It is evident that he has an immense depth of knowledge and a profound love for the language, which is pretty infectious when speaking with him. I look forward to working with him further and taking advantage of the knowledge he has to offer.
