Hi! I'm an American living in Portland, OR and have been learning languages my whole life. I grew up learning Spanish and English in my home and later learned Japanese by watching anime with my brother. I recently moved to China for seven months to learn Mandarin and it was an amazing experience. I am looking forward to working with you!

I'm both causal and professional and am here to take your English speaking to the next level. I graduated from college with a degree in Physics and then worked in the aerospace industry building satellites. As such not only is my English extremely proficient, but I am also able to speak with you about many areas of interest such as technology, science, nature, etc. I'm always looking to learn more and am excited to meet you and hear more about your culture.

Because I am a community teacher, I focus on speaking and making sure that each class you feel both engaged and challenged. I want you to leave feeling like you learned something and pushed your comfort zone a little bit. Homework assignments are optional and will be given on a case by case basis. If you have a topic you'd like to focus on please let me know. I hope that I can not only help you improve your English speaking ability but can also help you optimize your learning method so that you make the most use of your time!

It's a brilliant choice to take Michael's lesson. Michael is a patient teacher that he listened carefully to my pronunciation and pointed out some mistakes that nobody has ever told me for the last 20yrs. And also he can speak fluent Chinese which makes the lessons even more interesting. Definitely, I'll take more lessons.

Thank you so much for today’s lesson! Michael is an amazing teacher—he’s not only knowledgeable but also very patient. He took the time to show me how to pronounce words correctly and gave examples in different ways and techniques, sometimes using Chinese and sometimes using Japanese. That approach really helped me understand better and made me feel more inspired about improving my English pronunciation and overall learning language skills!
