In this trial lesson we can go over your personal goals in language learning and discuss how we can achieve them according to your level, needs, and learning preferences. My main focus in both trial lessons and regular lessons is conversation practice with a focus on idiomatic speech (speech that flows and sounds natural to native speakers), but we can also practice pronunciation and grammar as we go along if needed. This is a stress-free environment to grow your confidence and skillset, and I would love to just get to know you and understand how to best support you in your language learning endeavors. The best way to learn any language is to use materials you're interested in. In this class, we focus on your interests. Like reading fantasy novels? Let's read one together! Are you a music lover? Let's learn some lyrics! I've been known to improve my own vocabulary by translating recipes and knitting patterns. 

Whatever theme you love, we'll use it to improve all areas of language learning: listening, reading, speaking and writing. 

Homework will not be assigned unless requested, but I will give you tips on fun ways to continue your language practice outside of class.

In this trial lesson we will start with some casual conversation so we can get to know each other a bit. After that I would like to know your motivations for learning English. Then I will tell you about my teaching philosophy. Lastly, because every student is different, we can come up with a plan for how I can best help you to accomplish your goals. Conversation Practice

Hey everyone! Welcome to our lesson to get you ready for the speaking part of the IELTS or similar exams. Don’t worry, we’re going to make this fun and super helpful!
We’ll kick off with a quick chat about something easy, like your favorite hobby or a place you love visiting. This gets you warmed up and talking naturally, just like in Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test.
Next, I’ll explain how the speaking test works—it has three parts: simple questions about you, a 1-2 minute talk on a topic, and a deeper discussion. You’re graded on fluency, vocab, grammar, and pronunciation, so we’ll work on all of those today.
For the main part, we’ll practice each section. First, you’ll answer short questions like “What’s your hometown like?”—try to add a little detail, like why it’s special. Then, for Part 2, I’ll give you a cue card, like “Describe a fun event.” You’ll have 1 minute to prep, then talk for 1-2 minutes. I’ll show you how to organize your thoughts clearly. For Part 3, we’ll tackle big questions, like “Why do people celebrate differently?”—you’ll practice linking ideas and sounding confident.
We’ll also work on vocab—think cool words to describe experiences—and some phrases to keep your answers smooth, like “What I’m trying to say is…” Plus, we’ll do some pronunciation practice to make sure you sound clear and natural, focusing on tricky sounds and the right rhythm.
At the end, we’ll do a mini mock test. You’ll answer a few questions like it’s the real exam, and I’ll give you feedback on what’s awesome and what to needs to be improved. You’ll leave knowing exactly what to work on!
For homework, try recording yourself answering sample questions or chatting with a friend about IELTS topics. I’ll share some great apps and resources to keep you practicing.
