The answer is, so that when you start learning vocabulary, you can pronounce the word correctly. So, if you've never studied a Indonesian at all, don't underestimate learning the alphabet. And in every country it will be different how to pronounce the alphabet. If it's your first time learning a Indonesian and the teacher doesn't teach you how to read the alphabet, don't hesitate to ask your teacher to give you an alphabet reading lesson first.
