EL PALACIO NACIONAL DE MÉXICO.

Construido sobre las ruinas de las Nuevas Casas de Moctezuma Xocoyotzin, Palacio Nacional ha sido la sede del poder y de la soberanía del pueblo mexicano desde el siglo XVI. Dentro de sus muros han habitado y trabajado grandes personajes de la historia nacional, desde virreyes, emperadores y presidentes, como el famoso conde de Revillagigedo, Agustín de Iturbide, Benito Juárez y Porfirio Díaz, hasta importantes figuras de la literatura universal, como Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. Este recinto no solamente ha sido el corazón, sino también fiel testigo y partícipe del devenir de nuestro país.

Hoy en día, este inigualable recinto alberga al poder ejecutivo y a la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público, y, al mismo tiempo, abre sus puertas al público para conocer los murales de Diego Rivera, sus impresionantes jardines, dos museos, escalinatas decimonónicas, fondos históricos y un extraordinario patio central en el que se llevan a cabo algunas de las ceremonias cívicas de mayor relevancia.   

Incluso desde la era previa a la llegada de los españoles, se tienen noticias de zonas que estaban destinadas a resguardar y exhibir todo tipo de especies animales y vegetales dentro del perímetro de lo que hoy es Palacio Nacional. Si bien, estos espacios fueron destruidos durante la Conquista, la importancia y el deseo de poseer un jardín dentro del recinto político más relevante de México no se perdieron de vista. En el presente, es posible visitar la nueva versión de los Jardines de Palacio, en donde se conservan diversas especies vegetales, tanto nacionales como internacionales, entre los cuales se destacan el maguey, agave azul, nopales, cazahuate, árbol de las manitas e imponentes ahuehuetes.
