disability: something that puts you at a disadvantage, could be a physical or mental disability
autism: part of the autism spectrum, involves issues with communication
attorney: lawyer
to let someone go: to fire someone from a job
revolving doors: doors that turn in a circle
to attempt: to try
photographic memory: being able to remember everything
humiliated: embarrassed
a fitting: trying on clothing to make sure it fits well
forthcoming: giving information freely
to go undercover: hiding or using a disguise to find out information
a spark: the start of romance
incident: a negative event
to get through to someone: to help someone understand something hard
to get on someone's good side: to connect with someone so they can trust you

みなさんは「はずだ」の意味を知っていますか？例えば、あなたが日曜日に友達にあるカフェに行こうと誘われたとします。あなたはそのカフェは毎週日曜日が休みだと知っています。そんな時は「そのカフェは今日休みのはずだから違うカフェに行きましょう」と言うことができます。
「はずがない」というのは「はずだ」の否定形です。

今、カタールでサッカーのワールドカップが行われています。
おととい、ドイツ対日本のサッカーの試合がありました。
日本はドイツに２対１で勝ちました。
この結果には驚いた人がたくさんいると思います。
私も「日本がドイツに勝てるはずがない」と思っていました。

なぜ勝てるはずがないと思っていたかというと、ドイツのランキングは日本よりずっと上だからです。
日本のテレビでも「ドイツに勝つのはとても難しい」と言っていました。「日本が勝つだろう」と言っていた人はほとんどいませんでした。一方、ドイツでは「日本には簡単に勝てる」と思っていた人がほとんどだと思います。
だから、「日本がドイツに勝った」と友達から聞いた時は信じられませんでした。
「うそ？」「まじ？」「本当？」と言って、本当に勝ったかどうか何度も確認しました。
今は日本のチームがドイツに勝ったことがとてもうれしいです。
ちなみに日本代表チームの選手のほとんどがヨーロッパのチームでプレーしているそうです。

みなさんにも最近「うそ？」「まじ？」と言ってしまうような信じられない出来事が起きましたか？

本当かどうか確認する：ほんとうかどうかかくにんする　make sure if it is true or not　
日本代表チーム：Japan national team
代表：だいひょう representative
うそ？： really? * ”うそ” literally means lie*
まじ？：really?  * sounds very casual*
本当？：ほんとう　really?

[前回より]  男は私が渡したペットボトルの水をゆっくり飲み始めた。それから、大きく深呼吸をした。


その男はゆっくりていねいに私に質問した。

男　「日本語上手だね〜、どこ出身ですか？」

私　「イタリア出身です。」

男はとても驚いているようだ。

男　「えっ、イタリア人！？、どこ？」

私　「シシリアです。」

男　「まじで〜！　行ったことあるよ、少し住んでいた。」

男は50才くらいだろう。初対面なので、ていねいな話し方だったが、私がイタリア出身の事と私より彼が年上なので、ていねいな話し方とくだけた話し方を混ぜている。

男　「昔にイタリア料理の勉強で1ヶ月いたんだ。なつかしいなー、、　日本は観光で？」

私　「今回は2回目です。」

男　「そうなんだ〜、いいね〜！」

私は声を出さずに笑顔でうなずいた。

男　*「　ところでさ〜、俺が　み•え•る•の？」

The man seemed very surprised.

The guy "What, Italian?  Where?

Me - "Sicilia.

Guy - "Seriously!　I've been there, lived there for a while."

The guy must have been about 50 years old. Since we had never met before, he was very polite, but since I was from Italy and he was older than me, he mixed polite and casual speech.

The guy "I spent a month studying Italian cooking a long time ago. I miss it. Are you in Japan as a tourist?

Me "This is my second time."

Guy - "Oh yeah, that's great!"

I nodded with a smile without speaking.

Guy *"By the way, do you see me?

Meeting a neighbour in Lisbon

El Mohán es una de las leyendas más temidas y conocidas en las zonas ribereñas de Colombia, especialmente cerca del río Magdalena. Se dice que es un ser mitológico, mitad hombre y mitad monstruo, con una gran barba y ojos brillantes como brasas. Vive en cuevas cerca de los ríos, donde guarda tesoros escondidos.

El Mohán es conocido por ser un ser muy celoso y caprichoso. A menudo asusta a los pescadores, hundiendo sus canoas o enredando sus redes de pesca. También es famoso por robar mujeres jóvenes y hermosas para llevarlas a su cueva, donde las retiene por un tiempo antes de liberarlas.

A pesar de su naturaleza temible, algunas versiones cuentan que si logras hacerle una ofrenda adecuada, como tabaco o aguardiente, puede volverse más amigable y ayudarte a encontrar oro o protegerte en el río.
