Home, Family and Food Words: Everyday Indian English at Home | Understanding Indian English #010
説明
"Co-brother", "almirah", "mixie", "brinjal", "pure veg": visit an Indian friend's home or share a meal with colleagues and you will meet words that are not in your textbook. This episode decodes the family, household and food words you will hear most often.
What you will learn:
• Family words: cousin-brother, real brother, co-brother, co-sister, native place, joint family
• Why "uncle" is not enough: separate words for each relative
• Household words: almirah, geyser, mixie, cooler, pressure-cooker whistles, inverter, power cut
• Same food, different name: curd, brinjal, ladies finger, capsicum, maida, atta, gravy
• Meal words: the many meanings of tiffin, "meals", and "Did you have food?"
• Veg, non-veg and pure veg, and why the question is hospitality
• Practice sentences, five listening strategies and self-check questions
Level: B1–B2. Self-study: listen, then take the quizzes.
Audio voiced with AI from an original script by Dr. Rashmi R Nair.
