1: How to pronounce 'y'

Hi! This is the final introduction podcast. Maybe, at this point, you are tired of listening to me talking about myself, but I guarantee you that you find this really interesting and challenging! In this podcast I talked freely like when I chat with my friends. I didn't use my dialect, but used well-known-not-standard-Japanese! For those who study mainly from textbooks or articles, it will be even surprising!

Introduction (Native level)

Many thought Collins had ended the series after the 2010 publication of Mockingjay — she even wrote in 2015 that it was "time to move on to other lands."

But four years later, she surprised readers and the publishing world when she announced she was working on what became The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, released in 2020 and set 64 years before the first book.

Collins used parts of Greek mythology and the Roman gladiator games for her earlier Hunger Games books.

But for the new book, she said she was inspired by the Scottish philosopher David Hume, and what he described as "the easiness with which the many are governed by the few."

She added that the book will also look at the use of propaganda and "the power of those who control the narrative."

The film version of Songbirds and Snakes, starring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler, came out last year. This fall, a Hunger Games play is set to open in London.

OK, we talk about communication between different cultures, but did you know that emotion can be a determinant factor in distinguishing them? Some people are more affective, others rather neutral. And we bet you might have noticed that in your everyday interactions. But why?

Episode 2: Affective vs Neutral Cultures 

An action in progress can be expressed by adding the adverb “在”、“正” or “正在” before a verb or by using the modal particle “呢” at the end of a sentence. For example
wǒ zài shuì jiào 。  wǒ zài shuì jiào ne 。 
我在睡觉。=我在睡觉呢 。
tā zhènɡ liàn xí kǒu yǔ 。  tā zhènɡ liàn xí kǒu yǔ ne 。 
他正练习口语。=他正练习口语呢。
dà wèi zhènɡ zài chī fàn 。  dà wèi zhènɡ zài chī fàn ne 。 
大卫正在吃饭。=大卫正在吃饭呢。

The negative form is“没(在)+Verb/Verb Phrase”, without “呢”at the end of the sentence. For example:
wǒ méi zài kàn shū 。 
我没在看书。
