Hey, how are you? I hope you are well. I'm Milo, a Spanish tutor at italki, and today we're going to talk about some Colombian words that you may not find in your regular dictionary. Let's see what they mean!

1. Estrenar: Esta palabra significa "to use something for the first time". En Colombia, "estrenar" se usa mucho cuando compras algo nuevo, como ropa, zapatos o incluso un carro. Ejemplo: "Hoy voy a estrenar mi camiseta nueva."

2. Intenso: Aunque en inglés "intense" tiene un significado similar, en Colombia "intenso" no solo describe una persona o una situación fuerte, sino que también puede referirse a algo o alguien que es un poco demasiado, como una persona que está siempre hablando o buscando atención. "Mi amigo es muy intenso, no para de hablar."

3. Parcero: Esta es una palabra muy común en Colombia para referirse a un amigo cercano, como si dijieras "buddy" o "pal" en inglés. Es una manera muy cariñosa y amigable de dirigirse a alguien. Ejemplo: "¿Qué más, parcero? ¿Cómo vas?"

4. Enguayabado: Esta palabra describe a una persona que tiene resaca, generalmente después de haber bebido mucho alcohol. "Enguayabado" es el estado en el que estás al día siguiente de una fiesta. Ejemplo: "Ayer me fui de fiesta y hoy estoy enguayabado, no puedo con la vida."

Spanish Words with No Direct English Translation ( parte 2 )

I saw a movie  ”おいしい給食（きゅうしょく）” recently.　This movie reminded me of my school lunch.　Do you know about Japanese school lunch？  I think it is totally different form your school lunch.  I will tell you the memory of my school lunch. I have many memories of it, so I will tell you one of them today. 

『おいしい給食　その１．』
給食って知っていますか。
これは、日本の小学校、中学校で　出されるお昼ご飯のことです。
最近、劇場版『おいしい給食』という映画を見ました。
その映画は、ある中学校を舞台にしたコメディドラマです。
給食が大好きな教師と　同じく　給食が大好きな生徒が　主人公です。
この映画の注目すべき点は、2人の給食の食べ方です。　先生の「これが王道だ」と言っているような普通の食べ方に対して、生徒は先生が思いつかないような工夫をして食べます。それを見た先生が、そのアイデアを思いつかなかったことに悔しがって、身もだえします。　その負けを認める姿がおもしろくてとてもかわいいです。

ここまでは、その映画の話ですが、ここからは　私の給食の思い出をお話したいと思います。

私も給食が大好きな子どもでした。　給食は事前にメニューが決められており、
月末に次の月の一か月分の献立表が配られます。
私は、献立表が配られると　すぐに　いつ好きなおかずが出るかをチェックしていました。
私の通っていた学校では、給食は学校の給食室で作られていました。
4時間目が終わるのが、１２：25。それから　給食当番に当たっている子どもたちが、エプロン、マスク、三角巾をして、給食室に行きます。
そして、自分たちのクラス全員の分の食事の入った入れ物を　クラスに運びます。

そして、それは1年生のときに起こりました。
わたしは　2人でパンを運ぶ係に当たっていました。
1年生の教室は、給食室から一番遠くて、運動場を横切って行かなければなりませんでした。
コッペパンが40個以上入っているパンの入れ物は、けっこう重かったと思います。
私は運動場の真ん中で、手を持ち換えようとして、うっかり手をすべらせてしまいました。
いくつかのパンが、開いたフタから飛び出て、地面に落ちてしまいました。
もう、真っ青です。「どうしよう！」その後のことは、あまりはっきり覚えていませんが、とにかく担任の先生におこられました。
それから、校内放送がありました。ピンポンパンポーン♪
「1年1組でパンが足りません。パンがあまっているクラスは、1年1組に届けてください。」　そのようなことが放送されたと思います。それで、クラスのみんなは、ちゃんとパンを食べることができました。

給食にまつわるエピソードはまだ他にもあります。

I attended this wonderful concert as a member of choir of 10,000 people. 
I am going to talk about it in two parts. In No.1, what is サントリー１万人の第九? and how was the lesson?

サントリー１万人の第九　№１ 
みなさんは　『サントリー１万人の第九』って聞いたことがありますか。
今回は２回にわたって、この『サントリー１万人の第九』についてお話をします。

第１回目は　『サントリー１万人の第九』についてと　合唱の練習についてお話します。
第２回目は　前日のリハーサルとコンサート当日のことをお話しますね。

２０２３年１２月３日　日曜日　私は友人といっしょに、『サントリー１万人の第九』に合唱団員として参加しました。
この『サントリー１万人の第九』は１９８３年。今から４０年前。
毎年１２月の第一日曜日に開催されてきました。
ところが、コロナで２０２０年と２０２１年は動画投稿による合唱で行い、昨年は２０００人の生合唱で行うなど　形を変えて開催されました。
そして、今年２０２３年は　ふたたび１００００人の大合唱団が　大阪城ホールに集いました。

私は、ベートーベンの交響曲第９番の第４楽章の合唱パートを歌うのは２回目ですが、この『サントリー１万人の第九』に参加したのは初めてです。
日本全国の練習会場やオンラインで、レッスンが８月２０ごろから本番まで１２回ありました。　私は毎週火曜日に　オンラインのレッスンを受けました。　また、いつでも見ることができるレッスンビデオが用意されていました。　ドイツ語の発音、パート別レッスン、指揮者佐渡さんのワンポイントレッスン、仕上げ用のハーモニーレッスンなどがありました。　それぞれ１２レッスンずつあり、とても丁寧で濃い内容で　それをいつでも見て練習することができました。
どうしてもわからないところは、合唱経験のある友人に教えてもらって練習しました。

ドイツ語は子音が大事で、大げさすぎるぐらい発音するようにと指導されました。
特に、喜びという意味のFreude！の最初のFの音や、兄弟たちよという意味のBruder！のBの音は　何度も練習させられました。　日本人には馴染のない発音の仕方なので、今もまだうまく言うことができていないと思います。

週に１回、計１２回のレッスンはあっという間で、気が付いたら１１月の後半になっていました。
１１月２８日には　指揮者の佐渡さんが直接指導してくれるレッスンが　尼崎のアルカイックホールで行われました。そのとき、初めて大勢の人たちと声を合わせて合唱しました。この時点で、私はまだちゃんと歌えていませんでした。どうしよう！という感じで、それから本番まで毎日ビデオを見て練習しました。

Ultimately, advocating for oneself is crucial in a work environment where recognition might be lacking.

Addressing lack of recognition requires a multifaceted approach. Organizations should implement formal recognition programs, provide opportunities for peer-to-peer recognition, and create a culture where appreciation is valued. By investing in employee recognition, organizations can reap the benefits of increased job satisfaction, improved employee engagement, and enhanced organizational performance.
