It’s sunny today. Mom went out to run errands until very late. So, Dad and I decided to cook, not only for filling up our bellies but also for fun. Based on the ingredients we had found in the kitchen, we made a quintessential American dish—the Hoover Stew. It’s simple enough for us to handle. While Dad was doing the knife work, I boiled the macaroni until al dente. Then, we tossed per-cooked macaroni, canned tomatoes, canned corn kernels, diced onion, and sliced sausage in the pot and boiled them for about 15 minutes. I wouldn’t say the outcome was easy on eyes. Initially, it tasted a bit bland, but the more I ate, the more I found the flavor to be mild and delicate. And the best part was that it was really easy to cook, and all the ingredients were easy to come by. My Dad even turned his pockets inside out to perform the Hoover Flags to match the vibe.

I live in the US, and I had to google 'hoover stew'. It was apparently popular during the depression, i.e. about 100 years ago, when Hoover was president. I'll have to ask my mom if she remembers it (she's 87).)

I’ve never heard of it! Maybe some chilli might liven it up.
