A godmother is a part of a Christian tradition where the parents of a child choose someone (female) to be the child’s guardian if anything happens to them and to oversee that the child is raised in a Christian-like environment. My parents are not super religious, so no I do not have one.

A godmother is essentially an appointed honorary parent that’s main duty is to spiritually guide you like how your mother would guide you in life. Nowadays it is nothing more than just an honorary thing and the godmother doesn’t really do anything other than be basically a family friend that acts like an aunt. My aunt was my godmother and I don’t think her being my godmother changed anything about my relationship with her. I just refer to her as Nina instead of Aunt sometimes randomly.
