I think this refers to a liquid that sheep are dipped into, to protect them from parasites/ bugs, that can hide in their fur and cause them illness or transmit disease through the skin. This happens at regular intervals through the year. There are probably dips for other farmed animals too... I will add a picture of some sheep in the dip (a kind of bath).
