What's the difference between Salir and Salir De? When do I know I should put "de" after salir? Is there a rule to follow? Thank you!

Salir means to leave or to go out, whereas salir de means to leave a place or space (you indicate explicitly what object or building something is coming out of) For example: Estoy saliendo de tu casa (I'm leaving your house) Esta noche voy a salir (Tonight I'm going out) There are also some other meanings of this verbs, like: To work out / to succeed (Salir bien) - El examen me ha salido bien To excel (Salirse, to be very good at sth) - El otro día me salí haciendo el examen Etc, etc Hope this was useful

Normally, we use “salir de” when we want to say that we “exit from one place”. For example: salir de casa, salir de la universidad. It can mean other things too: salir de noche (go out in the night), salir de día, etc. We use always de verb “salir” with something else: salir con amigos, salir mañana, salir a correr. As you can see, this verb can be used with different prepositions and you should learn all the structures by heart.

When you Say “salir a” you are saying that you are going to do something when you leave a place: E.g: Voy a salir a comer algo (I am going out to eat something) Ella sale a trabajar todos los días (She goes to work everyday) Ustedes salen a comprar ropa nueva cada mes (you go out to buy new clothes every month) “Salir de” is just to say that someone leaves a place. E.g:. Él va a salir de casa tarde (he's leaving his house late) El tren está a punto de salir de la estación (the train is about to leave the station)
