Hi everyone! I have a question: can you actually use “will” after “so that”? All grammar references say that modals including “will” can be used in clauses of purpose with “so that”. But then in the examples there isn’t a single example with “will”. To me “will” after “so that” sounds wrong, like after “if”

For example: I woke up earlier, so that I will be early for work.

I see a lot of different answers to this question. So I am also not sure , But when you are using "so that"before "will" . It's most likely because you are trying to make a conditional sentence.

For

Example 1: I learned English (so that I will) be more likely to get the Job I want.

Example 2: If she learns English , it is so that she will be more likely to get the job she wanted. 
( Grammatically correct but not common)

* Tip: before using "will" 9/10 times you usually need a pronoun to come ahead of it.

For example:

I will
You will
He/she will
They will

All of these makes clear who "will" be experiencing the action in the future. I hope that answered your question.

Your question isn’t clear. There are plenty of examples of both ‘if’ and ‘so that’ with ‘will’.

I’ll marry her if she’ll have me.
If you’ll cook, I’ll do the dishes.
(Offering an exchange)

I drink so that I’ll forget my ex. (I drink to forget my ex)
I’m learning English so that I’ll be able to get a job in tourism. (I’m learning English to be able to get a job in tourism.)
 ‘so that I will’ and  ‘to’ are both good and natural. Maybe the former is a little clearer and more colloquial in some cases.

Can you use "will" after "so that"? I want to say yes, but when I search for examples, I find I have to use "it" in order for the sentence make sense.

"I am baking in the tin pan, so that it will rise better."

I cannot think of examples where we say "so that will" in proper sentences. In our colloquial way of speaking, we could start a sentence with "so" and have it make sense:
"So, that will be enough then?" But people will argue that this sentence has flaws.

However, when we speak, we hear things like this all the time in conversation.

Usually in clauses of purpose, there would be a word separating 'so that' and 'will'. A sentence with 'so that will' would be such: so that will affect, so that will change, so that will determine, so that will allow, etc

I have taken off some days from work, so that will allow me to spend more time with my family.
