Most countries aim to improve their standard of living through economic development, but many important social values can be lost as a result. Do the advantages of economic development outweigh the disadvantages? It is believed that economic growth can have a positive impact on society improving living standards. The opponents guess that this tendency could lead to the losing of any social values. In my point of view, improving the standard of living can enhance overall quality of life, but it may also lead to a decrease in face-to-face interactions On the one hand, this tendency can lead to the potential improvement of life quality, because the innovative technology offers a lot of new devices and appliances for easy living. As a result, humans can improve their life expectancy as well. For instance, the newest models of the stove have a self-clean option, which means that after each cooking cycle, the stove will be clean. And it reduces the human labour for household. On the other hand, using cutting-edge technology people can feel loneliness because the new devices can reduce social communications. Consequently, it could negatively impact on the emotional state which can lead to mental diseases such as depression, especially in the elderly age. According to science research, the fifth retired person doesn't have daily in person contacts with others. In conclusion, technological progress offers many opportunities, such as saving time and effort, but it can also reduce social interactions, leading to health problems. Despite these issues, I believe the advantages of economic development outweigh the disadvantages, as solutions like community programs in libraries can help address communication problems.
