Generally positive answers are denoted by the word 'yes', so you would say something along the lines of: 'Yes, a few of my family members smoke. On the other hand negative answers can be answered with a simple 'no'. If reason must be given, you can say something like: 'No, my family is strictly against smoking.' I hope this was helpful.

It’s up to you how much information you would like to share. Because it’s a yes/no question, you could simply say “yes, they do” or “no, they don’t.” In friendly conversations in English, most people would reveal more information than a yes or no, however. You might expect to hear “yeah” and some anecdote about the number of smokers, or a person who smokes or used to smoke. For instance: “yeah, my uncle used to smoke for ages but eventually gave it up.” Or “um, yeah, my dad smokes but not my mom. In my country, a lot more men tend to smoke or drink than do women, so that’s kind of how it’s been in my family too.” Or whatever. By simply saying “yes” or “no” and a corresponding tag “they do” or “they don’t”, you could be communicating that you don’t think very highly of the subject and might enjoy changing it to something else. You could answer with “yeah it’s kind of a mixed bag, what about yours?”, which suggests that it’s a casual subject you don’t feel very strongly about. Because of outside circumstances and context, it is hard to give you a better set of possible practical answers without exhausting all possible answers, which will most likely only come with proficiency from living in an English-speaking country. Finally, don’t forget, with a new language comes new cultural normes. Good luck 👍
