Your tense is a bit confused. From the word 'here', I assume you are speaking at your destination, after the journey. But then why are you telling the listener what happens usually, not what has happened? Speaking at your destination: "Could you speak up? I drove here by the mountain road and my ears have popped." You could also say " I came through the mountains" or "I came by the mountain road" or "I took the mountain road". Or: "Could you speak up? I came through the mountains and my ears always pop." Just in case you mean during the journey: If you are speaking to somebody who is in the car with you, they know you are on a mountain road. "Could you speak up? My ears have popped." If you are speaking on the phone, first of all - don't! 😄 But seriously: "Could you speak up. I'm driving on a mountain road and my ears have popped."

,... *we usually take the mountain roads* ..., But that implies there's a choice. If you are going up a mountain, you MUST take the mountain roads, so "usually"doesn't make logical sense. If you are traveling from point Town A to Town B and there are mountains in between the two, and there is an option to drive around them, then you can say "usually."
