DELF / DALF vs TEF / TCF: what is the difference?
These four French exams are often confused because they all assess French language skills. However, their objectives and purposes are different.
DELF and DALF are French-language diplomas. They certify a level of French from A1 to C2 and demonstrate a candidate’s overall language proficiency. Once obtained, the diploma is valid for life.
TEF and TCF are French-language tests. They assess a candidate’s level at a given moment and provide a test result rather than a lifelong diploma. They are frequently used for immigration, nationality, studies, or professional purposes, depending on the specific version of the test and the requirements of the institution or authority concerned.
