Hello!
Can anybody tell me the difference between people and persons.
I mean as far as I know 'people' is the plural form of 'person'.
So, 'persons' is an incorrect word?, or when is it used?.
Thanks in advance!

Already great answers… but I’d like to add it is sometimes used for making reservations.
EX. I’d like to make a reservation for 4 persons.
Although it isn’t grammatically correct, it is used for clarity to not change the noun to its irregular plural form.

"Person" has several shades of meaning. "Persons" can be a plural for any of these meanings, so it can mean many things. It is used. It is not a legal term.
The most common meaning of "person" is a human individual. The plural then refers to several individuals and is a synonym for "people". It is uncommon but not rare. Restaurants sometimes use this term when taking reservations. A theatre might have "seating for 200 persons".
The theatrical world likes the word "person" where it can take on a meaning close to "persona", a word with the same latin root but having a different meaning. A "person" is a character or part in a play, so "persons" is the plural of that.
A third meaning of "person" is the body of a human being. This is used frequently. It may be frequently a legal term, but anybody who listens to news reports on the TV is familiar with it. For example, a news report would say: "The bandits were captured and concealed weapons were found on their persons".

Persons is used in law, its a very formal word that you wont really ever use.
You hear in court and also in legal bills.
Its not uses much outside of that. But people say it sometimes.

They are both correct.
And I also agree that “persons” is used in formal, legal and technical writing more often.
