(Based on this, because of this) "Since you didn't do your homework earlier, you need to stay home this evening and finish it." (After this time) "I hired a coach to help my golf swing, and my golf game has been great ever since."

Since usually refers to the period of time after a point in the past. Another way to think of it would be the phrase “after that time” or “from that point”. E.g. Since it was created in 1994, Amazon has become one of the largest companies in the US. Since I started studying for two hours every day, my English has really improved. ———————————————————— Since can also refer to a new development or situation. Here it’s similar to the word “because” or the phrase “seeing as though”. E.g. We will have to take your car since mine is in the shop. Since Sam is coming too I’ll just ask him to bring it. I didn’t bring any mushrooms since I know you are allergic. ———————————————————— We also see the words “ever since” used together quite often. The meaning is similar to the first sentence, but tells us that the two events may be related or that the period of time is very long. E.g. Ever since my wife left me, I haven’t been able to sleep. She dreamed of being an astronaut ever since she was a child. Note that in the second sentence, the meaning is not similar to the word because. These are the most common usages, apologies if I’ve missed anything.
