Hello everyone! Could anyone help me with the question? The two words 'round and around' are still making me feel frustrated because I almost always use them incorrectly. Please help me learn once and for all how to use them correctly. Is there any tip that you as a native speaker were taught at school? For example in the following sentence if I replace the word round by the word around how will it change the meaning? (I think ' from around the world' means almost, am I right?) stories from round the world Many thanks in advance 🙏

I can't think of a time when I would use 'round' and not 'around' (unless I'm describing the shape of something). A look online suggests that 'around' is used by US English speakers, whereas 'round' is used by British-English speakers. But I'm a native British-English speaker and I use 'around'!! Your example 'stories from (a)round the world' means stories from various countries in different parts of the world. I hope this helps!

I think you will never go wrong if you always use round to talk about a shape and around when you are talking about movement, directions or location.

Round refers to the shape of something. For example the world is round. And around refers to the location of something for example there's sea water around the island. But round can also be an informal alternative of around to describe a location or position of something for example the world goes round the sun.

You are using "round" as American slang. Better to use around and forget about round.

Like most English words, ‘round’ and ‘around’ have many meanings. She’s around 40. Don’t get stuck in the traffic jam. Go around it. The room has no corners. It’s round. Lots of people have a daily step goal of 10000 because it’s a round number. (Not interchangeable) There are lots of presents (round/around) the tree. I have stamps from (round/around) the world. During tax filing season, our accountants work (round/around) the clock. (Personally, I say ‘around’ more in these cases, but both sound correct)
