What's easy about Polish? Hey! Polish is consider one of the hardest languages to learn. Those who learned it to a high level might not agree :) I have a question for you all! This time I don't want to ask what are your biggest struggles with learning Polish. Quite the opposite,  I wonder what do you find particularly easy about Polish? Is it a certain structure, grammar rule or vocab? You can compare it to your native language or other foreign languages that you've been learning. What are your thoughts? :)

Personally, I'm a fan of the Roman alphabet

The easiest thing about Polish is that when you see a word in writing, it's always possible to guess the exact pronunciation. Unlike English....

Hey Norbert,

Some of the things that I've found easy were the lack of articles, the patterns in prefixes for verbs ("w-" indicating "going in" and "wy-" indicating "going out") and the incredibly intuitive pronunciation. There are a few cognates from English or similar languages which makes things a bit easier too.

Just to give you an example of a few sentences that are shorter in Polish than in English:

Nie ma. - There isn't any.

Spadaj! - Get lost!

Czego brakuje? - What is missing?

Wygrałeś? - Did you win?

Smacznego! - Enjoy your meal!

Schudłaś? - Have you lost weight?

I'm sure there are lots of longer sentences that also are shorter in Polish than in English, but I cannot think of them right now.

Hello, MrNorbert! Recently I have started learning Polish and my experience isn't too much (unfortunately I can afford to learn it just once a week) but I find out a lot of things or tips, which are help me in this process. On the one hand, if we compare Polish and Ukrainian we can find a lot of similarities at the meaning of words. And also, I think sentence's structure is the same. On the other hand, Polish include many English words. But this is just mine opinion and if I wrong I would like to be corrected. The hardest things for me are some unique, specific sounds and letter's combinations which we can't find in any other language.

So far, the only relatively easy thing I've discovered is that you only need the dative for people (and maybe cats and dogs), since in Polish you have other cases (namely locative and instrumental) you use where you'd need the dative in German. And speaking of the instrumental, I love the way you can just say "samochodem" when you mean "by car". Apart from that... I find it really surprising that several people have commented here that they find Polish pronunciation easy. Even after several years of trying to learn Polish, my tongue still gets tied into knots when I try to say 44 in Polish - sigh.

I agree with Phil! - Once you learn Polish alphabet and digraphs - you are able to pronounce every word correctly even if you have no idea what does it mean :)
