Imperfective / Perfective Verb Aspects?

I am wondering if anyone has advice on how best to distinguish the imperfective and perfective verb aspects in BCS.

More than anything I am confused when to use, for example, "napisati" and "pisati" -- or any other pairing for that matter -- in the present tense. I understand that napisati is more common in the past, but in the present and future tenses, it seems there is often similar usage of both verb aspects. So when do I know which one is correct?

Hvala vam!

An action of limited duration requires a perfective verb. ("Napisati" for example. Napisao sam ocu pismo.)

But the action of unlimited duration requires a imperfective verb. ( Pišem pismo ocu. the action in that case still lasts.

The first ones are, for example, upisati, (write in),zapisati, (write down), povikati,(shout), propevati, (to begin to sing), uraditi... and the imperfective verbs are pisati, pjevati, nositi, voziti...

Contact me if you need more explanations.
