When I made an American friend 15 years ago, my English wasn't so good.(Now still it isn't good though). We exchanged telephone address(how can I say? we didn't have smart phones yet at that time.) He sent a message, "Let's keep in touch." I was very surprised and confused. I thought i was sexual harassment because I didn't know the meaning of the phrase."Does he want to touch my body? What? " Now, I know it.

Anyway, back to your question. There's one time my cellphone was pickpocketed on my way home. Then, there was a phone call from a guy who claimed that he found it on the road. He asked me for money as a reward.
It really pissed me off that I blew up. My neighbour was in my room, watching me in frustration, suddenly said, "Tell me about it".
I was perplexed for a moment. " I-I-I have already t-told you," I stuttered.
In the end, I found out what tell me about it is all about.

"I-I-I have already t-told you," was funny. I can imagine how your friend was puzzled.
It is not very different from an "address" of course. But then look like a sequence of digits, the same way as numbers. So people call them numbers.

I didn't report to the police, I wasn't able to speak Chinese fluently, so it would lead to another problem.
She wasn't puzzled at all. Tell me about it means that one has already known about something unpleasant that someone has just described because s/he has experienced it themselves.
