Somewhat of a tangent, but the word “meme” was coined by Richard Dawkins and actually means something that spreads across a species by non-genetic means. It’s derived from the Greek word “mimema”, which means “that which is imitated”, and was coined on the pattern of “gene”.
Funnily enough, the word “meme” itself is a perfect example of a meme. It has spread rapidly around the world over the last few decades.
