Leaving Feedback - Mandatory?
Hello! Just curious since I couldn't find the answer on support.italki.com - is leaving feedback for a tutor or student mandatory? I like writing meaningful feedback for my students in intervals, but have been writing OK feedback for every class worried that there is a penalty if I don't I often let the "please leave feedback for your class with" emails pile up and it's very time consuming. I'm also unsure if people do 3rd person or 2nd person, and if feedback is the appropriate place to put the lesson material learned that day (like on other teaching platforms).

What do you guys do??

As a learner I always leave feedback for my teacher/tutor, even if it's just a quick thank you. If it's a new teacher I leave quite detailed comments, especially if I've enjoyed the experience. In this way other potential students might be encouraged to contact this person.

I feel quite discouraged when I receive no feedback in return, and this has happened quite often recently. If a teacher can't make the effort to acknowledge that some human interaction has taken part, then I'm less likely to book future lessons with him. I don't expect detailed analysis, just a common courtesy. A good teacher will provide useful verbal feedback either during, or at the end of their lesson, I think.

It’s not mandatory but please do it especially if it’s a first interaction. This helps the tutor/teacher a lot for potential students. As a teacher I leave feedback after every class, this however is a personal preference. Sometimes people have different teachers for the same language. By leaving feedback I am helping the other or future teacher see the progress of the student after every lesson.

@Julia

You could also consider leaving feedback for the people who took the time to answer your original question...

Hi
I don’t want to bother you. I want to improve my speaking English ability by speak with someone. Would you like to talk with me?
Thank you

The vast majority of teachers (90%) I have had did not ever leave a comment. It can be nice after the first lesson to receive one but I find they do not need to be done. This may be cultural depending on the language you are learning but that is my experience.
