Why do you think in many countries the level of crime is increasing and crimes are becoming more violent?
Hi pals! I`ve got to write an essay and i would like to know what you think regarding this issue :)
Why do you think in many countries the level of crime is increasing and crimes are becoming more violent?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your experience.
We can call something a crime when person breaks the law by doing prohibited actions. Of course every crime has its punishment which depends on the gravity of the offence which we will consider in the essay. Frequently they are punished by being imprisoned, being given a fine or even being received the death penalty. But why people commit the crimes? Are there any ways to prevent them? I`ll try to clarify by using arguments and some stories from my life when I underwent the connection with the felony.
Reportedly, the highest crime rates are in Venezuela, Papua New Guinea and South Africa. Venezuela has a crime index of 84.86, the highest of any country in the world. The high crime rates have been attributed to corruption and poor political system. Crime, especially violent crime, in Papua New Guinea is largely fueled by rapid social, economic, and political changes. South Africa has the third-highest crime rate in the world. It has a notable high rate of rape, homicides and other violent crimes. This has been attributed to several factors such as high levels of poverty, inequality, unemployment etc.
Said above tells us that poverty, wars and political issues are the reasons of crimes. Unfortunately most of the crimes aren`t punished and criminals go on carrying out new others for one reason or another. My mom`s father was murdered and the murderer hasn`t been found yet. I reckon, that the reason is in poor justice system and low social welfare for the elderly in Ukraine. I`m sure the criminals aren`t done with crimes and may be the dozens of innocent people died after offense. There is only the way to change the current situation – change of the government and the reform of all systems. The social welfare is in the first place. People have to be socially secure by getting a high-paid job and educating the young people such as the area of nurturing children plays a significant role in behavior of nation. Certainly social actions, books, magazines can help struggle with crimes but nowadays the social media is the best way. I suggest to forbid apps and sites where the violence is widespread and pay more attention to scientist projects and self-realisation of youngsters.
Finally, it may be concluded that welfare and prosperity can`t be in countries with a high rate of crime. Of course, many things are reliant on individuals` temperament and upbringing, as we can see the government is one of them. Crime always was and will be but together we can prevent them and build the better future for our posterity.

Hi Mariana,
The experience of my country might make this more complicated. Crime increased at a time when the US was widely prosperous. It stayed high for twenty-five years, even while the economy slowed and became much more unequal.
One factor that did seem to change along with the crime rate was the amount of lead in the environment that children were exposed to. When the first generation without lead in gasoline or paint grew up, the crime rate dropped.

Hello, Marina! I think this is a really interesting question. I'm no expert at all in crime or sociology, or whatever. But my opinion is this.
Crime has always been a thing. I assume that the first crimes were made even before they were considered crimes. I imagine caverns men stealing or murdering for survival. It was unethical, but necessary and no law to forbid it.
I think that when social relationships developed further in a more complex way, and rules became a thing, crimes started to be something to be punished.
So, I think we all have a battle of primitive instincts and impulses against ethics and social constructs. When the later loses, crimes can occur. And that's why some actions can be considered crimes or not according to a culture's value system. For example same sex relationship, polygamy, prostitution, etc. Those actions don't imply a phsysical damage per se to anyone, but some law systems consider them crimes because of moral damage. Same thing occurs with felonies, where actions can severely affect others, like murdering or stealing, but in these scenarios almost everyone agree that they're crimes.
Value systems are complex, generational, evolving things. That's why crimes have been redifined through history. Still, I think nowadays many of traditional values have been lost. Values like selflessness, solidarity and empathy may be on a downward spiral because of economic situation, overpopulation and lack of education.
Criminals know they're breaking the law. They know they're acting wrong, but still do it. I think for that to happen, you got to be in a situation where the impulse to do it is greater than the impulse of not doing it, you got to have a particular set of mind (where you don't feel guilty enough or have some anti-social traits) and a value system with certain weaknesses. I think this also could be related with economics and lack of education.
But that's just an opinion 😅 Have a nice day!

Mariana,
Crime is now much lower in the US than it was in previous decades. One reason it is higher than in other countries is the distinct social history of racism and segregation in the country. This includes a history of segregated employment.
Regarding lead, yes, it is known to be a toxin (poison) in the brain, and young people with lead in their blood have more behavior problems in school and more difficulty learning.

Maybe because of Covid-19 many people lost their jobs and some addicted to drugs need to buy their "shit" so they kill and steal
