the difference between drug and medicine

Yesterday ,my foreign friend have stomach pain,i suggest he take some drugs.

He told me that i should say the medicines rather drugs.

Who can tell me the difference between the drugs and medicine.

Drug is the formal name for medicine. However, the modern, casual meaning of drugs refers to illegal substances such as weed, cocaine, meth, etc. Drugs are often frowned upon when used with that common meaning. Medicine will always mean medicine as in the substance that makes you feel better.

Therefore: <em></em>

bascially drugs and medicine can mean the same thing but most people use drugs to call weed, cocaine, ecstasy etc..
