If the elder is your mother, dad, sister, brother or a friend just hug them and say you are sorry. And if you want to say sorry, who is not so close, just say I am really sorry for that and mean it, they will know that you mean it, sometimes saying sorry once is not enough, if they want soem time, give them and return again.
