it can be hard but if you're persistent then it's not a trouble, just don't give up and keep trying ^^

writing isn't really difficult for me, I don't really understand wat you mean by "what is written and what is spoken can be really different". for me the writing system is really logical. what is difficult for me is there are a lot of words that when spoken fast sound like other words... I'm not a good listener ^^;

Korean has a completely different structure (SOV) from the languages I can speak and has many politeness levels and honorifics, not to mention it has no cognates with European languages. Learning Korean is really tiresome! Fortunately the phonology and alphabet (한글) are quite simple, compared to Chinese, for instance.
