Well it depends on the person you meet. Like in the real world, there are good and bad people on the internet. I wouldn't however, trust anyone on internet, as you wouldnt know what kind of person they are unless you actually meet them personally. So meeting someone on internet, in my view- is dangerous and definitely not safe.

It's is not safe definitely, at least in China is. 

There are more bad guys on the internet in China, even they are normal person in real world, but when they are on the internet, they will have somewhat bad purpose. of coures there will be good people on the internet, but relatively speaking, the possibility of meeting a good people on the internet is less.

That is my opinion

  It could be safe, but I do not think the everyone understands what "safe" is.

 I am very good at detecting lies,  but I am not so sure that all other people can do it so well.

   The problem with the internet is the phneomenon of PROJECTION.

This is the phenomena, where your mind takes the information people give you, and begins to

FILL---IN--THE---BLANKS. 

 For example, the other person begins to appear, gentle,  kind,  sweet, highly intelligent,  and they understand our innnermost thoughts and feelings like nobody else ever did.   We begin to think of them like something of a cross between  Joan of Arc  and  Michael Jackson,  Jesus and the Buddha.

   We forget to ask the other person about their Massive Credit Card Debt, their use of Drugs and Alcohol,  or why it is that they cannot find a willing partner and friend from their Hometown.

 and so on and so forth et.

It's not dangerous...I've met about 8 people I got to know on the internet in real life and it was fine, I mean I would never accept to meet someone at their house (guy or girl) if I'd never seen them before but if you meet in a public place it's fine really...no need to be paranoid.

You will know the person completely when you will spend time to them personally. I am not saying not to trust people from online. We can give trust but not always nor not that much.  Danger will only be effective for those people who are being stupid or careless.
