Does someone know why is わかります and not わかます? i taught when is verb with る in the end like わかる that it loses る and get ます like in でます from でる.. but i noticed some verbs first gets り and then ます like わかる!? thank you!
In japanese there are two important group of verbs: ichidan and godan.
Ichidan verbs end with る (でる,いる,たべる,みる) and follow the rule that they lose る.
Godan verbs do not lose the last part but change it: とぶ -> とびます
わかる is a godan verb, not every verb that ends with る is an ichidan, usually verbs end with いる,える.
There are exceptions かえる (帰る to return, to come home) is a godan verb, きる (切る to cut) is godan, but きる (着る to wear) is ichidan.
