Please would someone help a beginner understand the grammar in this simple phrase?
I think that piacere is being used as a noun and that ti for your is being added to the infinitive conoscere (to know/meet) but why? And also why the di?
Thanks
Ian
Thanks again Andrew and apologies for the poor spelling on my posts.
So:
… conoscerti informal to meet you (tu)
… conoscerla formal to meet you (lei)
… conoscervi to a group (voi)
Corretto?
/piacere di conoscerti/ is an abbreviation of one of:
-- ho il piacere di conoscerti
-- mi fa piacere conoscerti.
/conoscerti/ means: conoscere te (to know you)
I think that the complete forms should be clear to you.
/di/ : il piacere di + /phrasal verb/
il piacere di mangiare un gelato
il piacere di leggere un buon libro
il piacere di andare a fare un viaggio
il piacere di imparare le lingue
Grazie Andrew. Penso capire.
So the formal (lei) version would be: piacere di conscerla?
Yes: piacere di consocerla.
Also: piacere di conoscervi (a group, a family, etc.)
