What a lovely article to read, Anastasia. I enjoyed it very much. Word formation is indeed a valuable skill to have, not just for Cambridge exams, but also for general vocabulary. 

I think, practising with word formation could also be very useful for identifying phrasal verbs, which is something my own students ask me about all of the time.
